Cheese boards are an elegant centerpiece, or accoutrement, to any table. The right combination of shapes, sizes, textures and colors grabs the attention of your guests and invites them to gather around. There’s an art to it that starts with the focal point of the board, the cheese.
Whether you use a wooden or slate board, or even a large platter, selecting a variety of cheese is the key to success. For a variation in texture, choose a combination of soft cheese like Brie, semi-soft like Fontina, and something harder like Parmigiano or Manchego. Add a contrast in flavor with a blue cheese like Gorgonzola or Stilton. When we pair our Osmosis Sauvignon Blanc with cheese, we like a tangy selection like Goat Cheese, or nutty like Gouda or Gruyere.
Balance is also critical. Add nuts and crisp crackers for texture; seasonal and dried fruits, and jams or honey to counter the saltiness of the cheese; and briny olives to complement their creaminess. Finish the board with crispy bread and don’t forget the cutlery, cheese knives and spreaders, and voila! You’ve got a stunning cheese board that goes perfectly with a chilled glass of Osmosis Sauvignon Blanc!
